Contemporary American artist and designer KAWS, aka Brian Donnelly, is one of the most prolific artists of his generation. In an Australian first KAWS: Companionship in the Age of Loneliness, is a comprehensive look of 25 years of his artwork. The KAWS exhibition at the NGV International will please people of all ages. KAWS’ sculptures range in size from a few metres to ten metres tall and are made from a variety of materials. The materials used in the exhibition include wood, bronze, aluminium, fiberglass and a steel pontoon inflatable raft.

What will I be able to see at the KAWS exhibition at the NGV?

Have any new works been commissioned for this exhibition?
The exhibition at the NGV will include a newly commissioned 7-metre bronze companion sculpture called GONE, 2019. It stands solemnly in a Pietà pose and evokes a sense of sorrow and empathy. This work will be displayed in the NGV International’s Federation Court and is the largest bronze KAWS has created to date.
Is there a companion children’s exhibition?
KAWS: Playtime is a free and immersive exhibition for children displaying KAW’s signature character BF and artworks referencing his popular toy-like figures. The exhibition encourages creativity and exploration through hands-on activities and interactive experiences.
