The exhibition entails intriguing insights into Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat lives and ideas through visual languages and offers fascinating insights into their intersects between their lives, practices and ideas . They changed the art world in the 1980s, through their complex ideas and political commentary shown in unconventional ways that is highly influential and relevant to today’s popular culture.  Acclaimed works such as Haring’s dancing figures and renowned ‘radiant baby’ are on display as well as Basquiat’s crown and head motifs.

Crossing Lines will surveys each artists tragically short careers through more than 200+ art works. Attendees will be provided insights into Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat careers, ranging from pieces created in public spaces such as the streets and subway stations of New York City, paintings, sculptures and photographs to name a few.

 

Water Wall tribute to the past

Experience a Water Wall Tribute to Keith Haring, celebrating the 35 years since Haring painted a temporary mural on the iconic NGV Water Wall. The exhibition has reimagined the artist’s 1984 piece with an unmissable vinyl graphic design on site, paying tribute to the original piece that is significant to Melbourne’s cultural history.

 

NGV Friday Nights

Celebrate the exhibition across summer with the NGV Friday Nights, which plays homage to the 80’s and Downtown New York City. Each week a DJ will spotlight a music moment of the era, including disco, hip hop, synth, post-punk and new wave.

Kids Summer Festival: Inspired by Keith Haring and Jean Michel Basquiat

NGV is providing a free activities festival for children during these school holidays on the 11th of January to the 19th of January, 2020. Inspired by the work of Haring and Basquiat and Melbourne Street Artist David Booth ‘Ghostpatrol’, includes an interactive chalkboard installation where kids are able to collaborate and contribute their own artistic feel to the art piece! Additional activities include: kids dance party and hip-hop workshops.
