September School Holidays 2015 [3]

Top Things To Do: Rainy Day Outings

In the lead up to September school holidays we’ve been building our list of top things to do in Melbourne with the family.

First up we gave you three great attractions – Melbourne Zoo, Sealife Aquarium and Medibank Icehouse. Next we revealed three special events – Royal Melbourne Show, Little Marketeers and Starry Southern Skies.

This week we have four more to add to the list, chosen especially for rainy days.

Melbourne Museum

There is always a lot on at Melbourne Museum and this September school holidays in no exception.

Meet The Connies

Trams are an important part of our city’s history as well as our favourite mode of transport. Visitors will meet the conductors throughout the school holidays as they roam around the museum. Meet The Connies is about entertaining, educating and informing about important community themes.

Conductors, performers, educators, ecologists and nature lovers will be distributing collectable swap-cards on environmental, social, historical and cultural topics.

Mini Melbourne

One for anyone that is fascinated by the city’s architecture, Mini Melbourne is an interactive exhibition where museum visitors can build a model home, building, parkland or streetscape.

Learn about the different styles of architecture around Melbourne from the city to the suburbs. Experiment with different materials while making your own 3D creation.

The Art of Science Trail

Take your “Junior Picasso” to Melbourne Museum and follow The Art of Science Trail to illustrate a range of specimens. An exhibition designed to develop drawing skills while helping visitors research and discover fascinating information on all things science.

Open Tuesday and Saturday at the Discovery Centre.

Every season has a new theme and these school holidays children will be able to make their own animated movie using traditional, hand drawn or claymation techniques.

During September, kids will also be treated to a special event inspired by Alison Lester’s Are we there yet? After a journey around Australia seeing fireworks at Sydney Opera House, cimbing Tasmania’s Cradle Mountain and finding witchetty grubs at Uluru, kids will listen to the classic children’s book.
